In my novel, Yossarian, still in the military hospital, has recently thrust his hand up the shirt of a female nurse. When she tries to run away, Dunbar grabs ahold of her breast. She shrieks and freaks out. Then, upon hearing her screams, a doctor runs to her aid and Yossarian pleads insanity. They move him to a mental hospital to do a checkup.
This part of the novel forced me to reread it a few times. I wasn’t sure what was happening. When I finally understood it, I was shocked, but then I realized that Yossarian was truly desperate to get out of the hospital and remain out of the line of duty. This made me pity Yossarian’s situation.
